Clinical and Risk Factors for Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Oriol Grau-Rivera

The Clinical and Risk Factors for Neurodegenerative Diseases Research Group aims to understand the biological and clinical changes that precede the cognitive impairment caused by Alzheimer's disease. It also examines how different elements such as sleep, dietary habits or cardiovascular risk factors interact with brain structure and function as well as with the biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease.

The ultimate goal is the development of prevention programs to halt or delay the onset of cognitive decline and ultimately dementia in asymptomatic at-risk individuals. The group, affiliated with the Barcelonabeta Brain Research Center (BBRC), the research center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, consists of a multidisciplinary team with experts in genetics, biomarkers, clinical neurology and neuropsychology. The main research areas deal with the connection between sleep disorders, cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's; the characterization of subtle cognitive changes in the preclinical phase of the disease, the impact of omega-3 fatty acids on its development, the role of vascular risk factors in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's, the association between epidemiological factors such as environmental pollution and anxiety and Alzheimer's, brain resilience and the study of the emotional and psychological impact of revealing the risk of Alzheimer's.
