The Association Against Cancer in Barcelona awards four of its grants to projects of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute.

The association presented its grants today. 44 projects will benefit from an investment of more than 13.4 million euros.

Four projects led by researchers from the Hospital del Mar Research Institute have been selected as part of the research grants announced today by the Association Against Cancer in Barcelona. The association has selected 44 projects, which will receive an investment of more than 13.4 million euros.

Among them is a project led by Dr. Alexandre Calon, who heads the Institute's Translational Research Group on Tumor Microenvironment. He has received the Lab AECC 2023 grant to investigate the benefit of immunotherapy in colorectal cancer. The aim of the grant is to support researchers to consolidate their position as group leaders.

Dr. Toni Celià-Terrassa, who coordinates the Cancer Stem Cells and Metastasis Dynamics Research Group, has received the AECC 2023 General Projects grant. Dr. Joaquín Arribas, as coordinator of the Immune Redirection Research Group, the AECC INNOVA 2023.

The projects selected include research into rare and low-survival cancers, applying digital advances to make progress in diagnosis, tests and advanced, effective and safe therapies for patients. In total, the AECC has awarded nearly 30 million euros to 233 applications throughout Spain.
