Mecanismos celulares en conducta fisiológica y patológica Arnau Busquets

The main aim of our laboratory is to establish cell type-specific mechanistic frames through the use of mouse models that determine complex physiological or pathological behavioral responses. Our objective is to further dissect the detailed molecular, cellular and behavioral mechanisms that can explain complex behaviors, such as advanced cognitive functions or complex social interactions.

Currently, our main research lines are focused on:

  • Study of the involvement of cannabinoid receptors in the development of some of the phenotypes and alterations associated with Alzheimer's disease. In this line we will focus on investigating several endocannabinoid system components, bioenergetic processes and mitochondrial alterations in different cell types of the brain in animal models of Alzheimer's disease.
  • Use of animal models to study the behavioral and neurobiological substrates that determine complex cognitive processes. We are interested in discovering which cell types and neuronal circuits regulate these processes in the normal brain or in pathology.
  • Development of new behavioral tasks to study positive psychotic effects in various pathologies using them as a translational research tool.
