Cancer Stem Cell Properties and Metastasis Laboratory

Cell

The Celià-Terrassa’s Lab started in January 2018 and focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating breast cancer stem cells (bCSCs) properties and their interplay with the metastatic microenvironment. In particular, we are interested on studying the molecular mechanisms underlying Cancer Stem Cell (CSC) cellular plasticity leading tumor progression, chemorresistance and relapse, as a major challenge to efficiently target breast cancer metastasis.

metastasis proces

Main focuses are: (1) the CSCs’ immune interplay and immunotherapy approaches in triple-negative breast cancer; and (2) the cellular plasticity engaged by dynamic bidirectional epithelial-to-mesenchymal transitions (EMT) during the latter steps of metastasis.

Our lab is framed at the intersection of the basic stem cell & cancer biology research with the clinical research at the Hospital del Mar, this unique translational configuration aims to quickly bridge our basic discoveries to immediate clinical applications for breast cancer therapeutics.
