This research group is led by Dr. Mª Victoria Puig since October 2014.

The group's main research lines focus on:

  1. Understanding dysfunctional neural networks present in psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia) and genetic disorders (Down syndrome) that result in cognitive impairment.
  2. Cellular mechanisms of cognitive amelioration by pharmacological treatments, natural compounds and environmental stimulation.

Technical approaches used: In vivo electrophysiology in freely-moving mice, operant and non-operant cognitive assessment, neuropharmacology, optogenetics, photopharmacology.

KEYWORDS: Neuromodulation, neural network, neural oscillation, synchrony, prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, executive function, learning and memory, mouse model, dopamine, serotonin, schizophrenia, Down syndrome, in vivo electrophysiology, optogenetics, fast-spiking interneuron.

PuigLab is a founding member of the SINC2: Spanish Network for the Interaction of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience.
