2. Structural and functional magnetic resonance neuroimaging of executive cognitive functions and motivation in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in adults

Although Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has regularly been considered a childhood and adolescent disorder, it is now widely accepted as enduring into adult ages. Clinical, genetic and neuroimaging studies point to dopaminergic and noradrenergic abnormalities in ADHD. The dual model characterises these abnormalities according to clinical symptomatology and the neuropsychological profile, proposing an alteration to motivational and cognitive functions as the basis of ADHD. The objective of the study is to use functional and structural magnetic resonance to research the neural circuits of the motivational and cognitive executive circuits of a sampling of 100 adults with ADHD (one drug-naïve and the other medicated) compared to a control group.
