The research group leaded by Dr. Antonio García de Herreros, was created in 1991 and has been oriented towards the study of mechanisms controlling E-cadherin function and its relevance in neoplasias.

The research of the group is focused on four main aspects:

• Analysis of the control of E-cadherin function through the phosphorylation of associated proteins.  Directed by Dr. Garcia de Herreros.
• Characterization of the mechanisms controlling E-cadherin gene expression in tumor cells and their implications in tumor development. Directed by Dr. Garcia de Herreros.
• Analysis of the elements involved in the transcription of mesenchymal genes during EMT. Directed by Dr. Josep Baulida.
• Global functional, genomic and proteomic approaches to identify and characterize the epigenetic mechanisms involved in the EMT. Directed by Dra. Sandra Peiró.
