IMIM belongs to the Parc de Salut MAR (before IMAS), being responsible for the support, promotion, coordination and management of the IMAS research, including both intramural research and the one from the other Parc de Salut Mar Centres: Hospital del Mar, Hospital de l'Esperança and Geriatric Centre, among others.
IMIM is one of the main institutions fostering the creation and start up of the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park Foundation (PRBB). Others centres included in the PRBB are: the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences of UPF (CEXS-UPF), the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), the Centre of Regenerative Medicine in Barcelona (CMRB) and the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL).
IMIM is a University Institute appointed to the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). As such, it participates in a very direct way in the research personnel training within the framework of the studies programs from both the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and the Departament of Experimental and Health Sciences of UPF (CEXS-UPF). Among these academic initiatives, it must be pointed out the Doctorate Program on Health and Sciences Life.
